SERP Features Carousel

Overview:

The Carousel SERP feature refers to the visual galleries and rich lists that run horizontally through Google's search results pages (SERPs). These carousels can contain a variety of content types, including images, videos, and news snippets. When a user clicks or taps an entry within a carousel, they are either directed to a specific website or to a new SERP related to that specific content.

  • Horizontal Positioning: All items within a carousel share the same organic rank position to reflect their horizontal placement on the SERP.

Examples of Carousels:

Additional Notes:

  • Rankings: Rankings for carousel items are parsed through our API. In the app, you can see carousels in the SERP Features column in the keywords table as well as in the Full HTML SERP subtab. The full contents of a carousel also show up in the Archived SERPs subtab.
  • Base Rank: Individual results within a carousel are listed in order of appearance but receive the same organic rank to reflect their horizontal position on the SERP. For example, if a carousel appears in rank one, all results within the carousel will be given a first-place rank.
  • Filtering: In Ranktracker, when you filter SERP feature types in your keywords tables or create dynamic tags, you can specify carousels by the following sub-types: news, organic images, and videos. The parent carousels result type includes all of the sub-types. Only the first result in a carousel factors into share of voice calculations and appears in the Keyword report: Google SERP top 20 comparison.
